History of the Premises in Via Ricasoli, Florence - Former Gonnelli Antiquarian Bookstore

The spaces of Regina Bistecca at Via Ricasoli 14r, Florence hold rich history: once an art gallery and home to the Libreria Antiquaria Gonnelli, founded in 1875 at no. 6 and still active today at Via Fra’ Giovanni Angelico 49.
For four generations, Gonnelli has been one of Italy’s oldest antiquarian bookstores, frequented by:

  • Gabriele D’Annunzio, Giovanni Papini.
  • Ferdinando Martini, Benedetto Croce.
  • Bibliophiles like Tammaro de Marinis and Umberto Saba.

Today, these spaces welcome your Bistecca alla Fiorentina, preserving Florence’s cultural heritage while housing a collection of over 500 international gastronomic culture books.

Gallery

And so the partners, Simone Arnetoli (Galateo Ricevimenti/ToscaNino) and Matteo Perduca (AdAstra and SoprArno Suites), have given the space the utmost respect, deciding to maintain as much as possible the original architectural elements of the bookshelves, gallery and the raised entrance features whilst collaborating with local Florentine artisans.
Not only. Since the space once served as a cultural salon for the famous painters and artists of its time, from Giorgio De Chirico, Primo Conti and Ottone Rosai, many original paintings and works of art belonging to the Libreria Gonnelli still adorn the walls alongside new bespoke commissions by contemporary artists.
